Popularly known as Dance Movement Therapy (DMT), the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) defines this as an arts-based psychotherapy that uses movement as a primary tool to promote emotional, social, cognitive and physical integration of an individual.
Movement is a universal language that transcends all barriers of communication, thus making DMT an inclusive therapeutic approach for everyone — irrespective of age, ability, gender, and other socio-cultural norms. By using movement as a psychotherapeutic tool, we tap into the mind-body-spirit connection and tune into the wisdom of the body, one that has grown and developed with us over time, to help us learn from the signals it communicates along the way.
